For some, doing time can be easier if they have enough money. For $100 a night, an alternative to Orange County Jail is Seal Beach’s pay-to-stay jail. The incarcerated are still surrounded by barbed wire fence and food choices are pretty slim, but it beats the violence of a county jail. It’s been called, “like paradise.”
Seal Beach’s pay-to-stay program brought in $365,000 from paying inmates and that amounted to almost half of the $766,662 budget for the annual jail budget. This facility is the second most profitable pay-to-stay jail.
