Thanks to a chemist, Annie Dookhan, who fabricated evidence in countless cases, more than 20,000 drug offender cases are being thrown out and the prisoners released due to wrongful convictions. Dookhan’s falsification of test results and evidence tampering were discovered after she was fired from her job at a Boston lab run by the state Department of Public Health. This case took more than five years to uncover and prosecute so too many individuals have been serving time they didn’t deserve. Most of the cases affected “low-income and black and brown” communities.
